It is with great sadness that we inform you that our great friend Chris Brockett peacefully passed away in Southmead Hospital on Sunday (31/1/21).

Ladies & Gents,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that our great friend Chris Brockett peacefully passed away in Southmead Hospital on Sunday (31/1/21).

Chris played mainly at prop forward for many years and was then an important part of the successful junior section development at North Bristol RFC, before becoming an active referee and Committee member for Bristol Referees Society.

Chris was actively refereeing right up until he suffered a massive and debilitating stroke some 6 years ago, the consequences of which he bravely fought until his passing, lovingly cared for especially by his wife Margaret, but of course also by their children Tim and Katherine.

Sadly, Chris was taken ill late last week after a further setback, and was admitted to hospital, but passed peacefully away on Sunday, after sharing his final day watching Premiership rugby on TV with his family around him in hospital.

Chris will always be remembered as a gentle giant, with a dry sense of humour. He absolutely lived for rugby, and apart from his own involvement loved watching son Tim play club rugby at National League level.

I am certain that you will all join me in sending the love of the local rugby community to Margaret, Tim and Katherine, all of whom know that Chris is now finally at peace.

Lastly, Chris's funeral will inevitably have a very limited number of invited family and close friends allowed to attend the service itself due to ongoing Covid restrictions, but many of you will wish to pay final respects along the approach to the crematorium. It may be sometime before the funeral details can be finalised, but I will circulate them to you all just as soon as is possible.

Yours Faithfully,

Tony Swash
Hon. Secretary, Bristol & District Rugby Football Combination
