BRRS' esteemed President, Ed Morrison, has formally submitted his intention to resign at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. The whole Society would like to thank Ed for his unwavering support and invaluable guidance since he stepped into the role seven years ago as BRRS' first ever President.
During a glittering refereeing career, Ed became the first Englishman to referee a World Cup Final by officiating the 1995 final between South Africa and New Zealand. Ed went on to become England's first full-time professional referee in 1998 and, after his retirement in 2003, went on to manage the elite group of referees officiating for the RFU and PRO12.
As testament to his excellent and long-standing contribution to the game, Ed deservedly received an OBE for Services to Rugby Union in the 2018 New Years Honours List.
Ian Smith, BRRS Chairman, has paid tribute to Ed's outstanding support for BRRS:
"The Society has been very fortunate in having Ed as its first ever President.
"Throughout his seven years in the role, Ed has made a huge contribution and given enormous help to the Committee and the wider membership.
"On behalf of the Society I would like to offer a huge thank you to Ed for all his hard work and wise counsel."
All Society Members with have the opportunity to pay their thanks to Ed at the End of Season Dinner on 5 May 2023 and the 2023 AGM on 14 June 2023.
Ed's successor will be elected by the Membership in due course.
