Become an assessor!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I know we are two and a half months from the new season beginning but as SADO (Society Advisor Development Officer) I need to plan ahead.
Advising, assessing, etc. are not secret arts. They are a tool that we use to help develop our referees to the level they want to reach – not everybody wants to operate at the highest levels. Any areas for development are highlighted and solutions suggested. The process is to help referees improve, not to criticise them.
Currently the Society has a team of 8 regular Advisors or Match Observers. Last season 152 reports were done by them plus a number of observations were done on new referees to give them support at the start of their careers. Last season every regular, active referee was watched at least once and reported on. Others were watched more often to check their potential for promotion.
Reports are done on referees from Level 12 up to and including Level 6. We also report on referees coming in on exchange from other Societies. Training and support is given to new Advisors, and more experienced ones, with an aim for them to progress on to the Group or National Panel. We already have 2 members who operate at Level 5 and above and others with past experience.
I am always on the look out for more people to join our team to pass on their knowledge and experience and help our referees develop. The Federation are aiming to organise a course for ‘Referee Advisors, Referees Assessors, Referee Coaches, Referee Mentors and anyone else who is interested in being involved with one of these functions’. Sorry but there are no further details available at the moment, but we have at least 8 advisors, including 2 ‘casuals’, who have shown an interest in attending. Anybody deciding to take up the noble art of Match Observing will be supported from the outset and developed gently.
If you are interested or want to know more about what is involved in these roles please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call me on 07593541157 for more information.
Cheers
Tim Mahoney
